What is Express Entry

Express Entry, also referred to as Federal High Skilled Immigration, is a major part of the economic immigration stream to Canada and unequivocally forms the largest cohort of new permanent residents to Canada.

According to 2024-2026 Immigration Levels Plan, the target for Express Entry will be increased from 110,000 immigrants in 2024 to 117,000 in 2026 that is approximately 24% of the total immigrants to Canada who become new Permanent Residents each year.

Express Entry also contributes significantly to Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP), where provinces pick candidates from Express Entry pool based on their specific economic needs and targets. PNP will contribute another 110,000 permanent residents in 2024, 120,000 in 2025 and 120,000 in 2026 respectively. Federal and provincial numbers put together, makes the Express Entry share to a whopping 50% of the total permanent residents in Canada each year.

How does Express Entry work?

Canadian Permanent Residency is a dream for many, and Express Entry is one of the most promising and sought-after systems to make this dream a reality.

The Express Entry uses a comprehensive ranking system (CRS) to select top candidates keeping in view its near future economy and labor market needs. To be eligible under Express Entry, one must qualify for one of the three of Canada’s economic programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
If you are eligible for any of the above programs, you can also apply to Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) through Express Entry. Extra points are awarded to provincial nominees for quick applications. Please check the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) section on our website for details.

What is the Express Entry process?

Express Entry is a two step process:

Step 1: We submit your profile in the Express Entry pool where Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) awards points primarily on the basis of age, level of education, language proficiency (English and French), and work experience.

The profile remains active in the pool for one year. If you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) within this period, we ask that you may move to the next stage. *

Step 2: As soon as we receive the ITA, we apply for permanent residency with the submission letters and documents to support the points claimed in the first stage.

According to IRCC data, around 25% of Express Entry profiles do not qualify, so it is important to do it right first time. Our RCICs can help you accomplish that.

In case you do not get ITA, we may advise you to re-enter the pool with a new profile if you are still interested.

*Submission of Express Entry profile does NOT mean applying for permanent residence.

Have Questions About Express Entry?

Who is eligible for Express Entry?

Anyone who qualifies based on age, education, work experience, language proficiency can apply to create a profile under the Express Entry system.

However, a strong CRS score that is above the Express Entry draw thresholds, is required to get ITA from IRCC. Frequency of the draws is bi-weekly.

Although Express Entry does not require a Canadian job offer, it does help as it may enhance the CRS score to 50 / 200 points in the Express Entry system, increasing your overall CRS.

If you hav a job offer, we will assess its validity and guide you through the process on how to claim those points
