Are there any additional eligibility factors for Canadian Experience Class?

Work Experience

Anyone with one year of full-time or equal part-time and paid skilled work experience in Canada within the last three years before application qualifies for the Canadian Experience Class.

Skilled work experience means that you’ve worked in 1 or more of these NOC training, education, experience and responsibilities (TEER) categories 0, 1,2 and 3.

Full-time work experience is considered 30 hours per week, with a total of 1560 working hours over a period of a minimum of 12 months. This experience has to be legal and with valid work authorization.

Self-employment, work experience during your full-time studies, and co-ops and internships as part of your course do not count towards valid work experience for CEC.

Language proficiency

CLB 7/NCLC 7  for TEER 0 or 1  and CLB 5/NCLC 5 for TEER 2 or 3

Education

There is no education requirement for the Canadian Experience Class. However, you can increase your CRS score as follows:

  • If you went to school in Canada, you can get points for a certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian secondary institution (high school) or post-secondary institution
  • If you have foreign education, an ECA report for immigration purposes that shows your education is equal to a completed certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian secondary institution (high school) or post-secondary institution

Other factors

Your admissibility to Canada and a valid status if residing in Canada are crucial for your eligibility under the CEC. If you live or work in Quebec, you can apply for CEC through the Express Entry but must prove your intention to reside outside the province once approved.

Get Qualified for Canadian Experience Class as a Temporary Foreign Worker

Temporary foreign workers can become eligible for the Canadian Experience Class program after obtaining one year of professional work experience in Canada.

Here is the most common way to obtain Canadian permanent residence through the CEC as a temporary foreign worker:

Step 1:  We can help you secure a Canadian work permit for NOC TEER category 0, 1, 2, or 3 job

Step 2: Remain in that job for at least 1,560 hours

Step 3: Take an English or French language test to meet Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) requirement

Step 4: We will make your profile to enter the Express Entry pool. If you secure an invitation to apply, your application may be processed within six months.
